Norma Jean Heber, 89, of Hillsdale, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. To her family and friends she was known as “Jeanie.” Norma Jean was born in Vermillion County on July 21, 1929, to Mabel Clair Brown and Laverne Alfred Knapp. She married James (Jim) Franklin Heber on September 29, 1947 in Clinton Indiana.
She worked at the former Clinton Garment Factory and at Eli Lilly for Canteen. She enjoyed gardening and being a homemaker. She was a member of the Rebekahs Lodge of Hillsdale and in later years enjoyed outings with The Red Hat Society. She raised four children and enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim, who died in 2015; her son, Steven Michael Heber, who died in 2008; and her daughter, Tonna Lea Corbin, who died in 2017.
She is survived by two children, James Thomas (Tom) Heber and wife Lorrie of Terre Haute, IN and Susan Elaine and husband Michael (Mike) Gilman of Richmond, KY. She also is survived by a half-sister Dee Dee Long; three grandchildren, Leasa Corbin-Pratt, Zachary Gilman, and Lauren Gilman-Swinefurth; along with three great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ethan Pratt and Sutton Jean Swinefurth.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 with services at 3 p.m. in Brown-Mack Funeral Home 1072 N. Jefferson Street in Montezuma. The Reverend Keith McIntyre will be officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Norma Jean to the Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society P.O.
