Matthew Maze Obituary

Matthew David Maze, 53, of Rockville, Indiana passed away on Monday December 4, 2023, at his home.

He was born in Gary, Indiana on October 15, 1970, to Dennis and Mary Anne (Nee Bales) Maze.

Matthew was a 1989 graduate of Lake Central High School and went on to serve in the United States Army for 6 years, serving in Desert Storm. After his service to our country, Matthew made NWI his home where he became a journeyman machinist and worked at a local machine shop. He then moved to Rockville and was a correctional officer at Rockville Correctional Facility where he helped many a co-worker and those, he was charged with in making better life decisions such as getting their GED’s. Matthew was a member of the NRA and enjoyed spending time with his dog and fixing things. Matthew was the “go to guy” to fix just about anything. From a child he was always taking things apart and putting them back together. Matthew was quick-witted and would often bring a chuckle or a cringe to conversations.

Those preceding Matthew in death are his paternal grandparents Okey and Reva (Nee Pettit) Maze, his maternal grandparents Albert and Amma (Nee Dodson) Bales and his cousin/brother Michael Wayne Penrose.

Survivors include his parents Dennis and Mary Anne Maze of Montezuma, brothers & sisters: Mark Maze (Gena) of Wheatfield, IN., Michele Maze of Griffith, IN, Mitchell Maze (Sherri) of Hobart, IN., and Mel Taylor (Mark) of Griffith, IN., his nieces and nephews Jason, Dakota, Nina, Morgan, Myles, and Mason, his long-time friend/brother Scott Oliver of Rensselaer, IN., an aunt, uncle and several cousins.
