Joseph T. Compton, 75, of Montezuma, died Thursday, January 31, 2019, at his residence.
He was born December 13, 1943, in Terre Haute, to Phillip C. Compton and Gertie M. Compton.
He was formerly a grounds keeper at Indiana State University.  He was a member of the Mecca Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers, Wayne and Waylon; two brothers, Teddy and Robert Compton; a sister, Mary Inks; a brother-in-law, Bill Rollings; a sister-in-law, Gail Charver; and a granddaughter, Carly Compton.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; sons, Joe Jr. (Cynthia) of Terre Haute, Dennis of Terre Haute, Brad of Terre Haute, Eric of Montezuma, Phillip (Kylie) of Montezuma, Jerry (Kristi) of Utah; daughters, Chris Evans of Terre Haute, Karen Sue Compton of Terre Haute, Abigail Charver of Montezuma; sisters, Nancy (Michael) Blackburn of Rockville, Deanna Rollings of Decatur, IN, Phyllis (Craig) Seitz of Decatur, IN; and a brother, David (Laura Kim)  Compton of Terre Haute; several grandchildren, including two special grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brylynn Compton; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, February 6 at 10 am at Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma with Rev. Keith McIntyre officiating.  Cremation was chosen with no visitation as per his wishes.
