Joseph Paul Atkinson

Joseph Paul Atkinson, 67, of Montezuma, died at 12:01 am May 4, 2016 in his residence.
He was born November 5, 1948 in Smokey Row, Indiana to Paul Milton Atkinson and Maxine Reynolds Atkinson.  
He served during Vietnam in the US Navy.  He was a member of the Independent Baptist Church in Montezuma.
He married Barbara Jane Hamke on March 26, 1971 in Montezuma and she survives.  He is also survived by one son, Paul “Skip” and Shauna Atkinson of Montezuma; one daughter, Heather and Randy Atterbury of Montezuma; brothers and sisters, Leon and Vicque Atkinson of Montezuma, George and Debbie Hamke of Montezuma, Gary and Judy Hamke of Fairview, Pat and Mike Tarwachie of North Liberty, IN, Kay and Joe Morris of Riley, Libby Atkinson of Peru, and Lisa and Randy Kneeland of Rosedale; and grandchildren, Chelsea Atkinson, Alex Atkinson, Brogan Sanders, and Natalee Atterbury, all of Montezuma.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Edna and Paul Atkinson; mother and step-father; Maxine and Stanley Tarwachie; brother Harold “Pee Wee” Atkinson; and grandson, Brock Sanders.  
Visitation will be 4-8 Friday at the Independent Baptist Church in Montezuma.  Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday at the church.  Military honors will be performed by Parke County Veterans Organizations.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Independent Baptist Church, PO Box 8, Montezuma, IN 47862.
