Joanna Sue Dickey Morris, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at her residence.
She was born on January 17, 1947, in Clinton and grew up in Montezuma. Her parents were Mary Josephine (Martin) Bennett and Dallas Harrison Dickey.
Sue is preceded in death by her three half-brothers, Paul Bennett. Jack Bennett, and Bill Bennett; two half-sisters, Jean Bennett Hubbard and Mary Dickey Hall.
Sue attended Montezuma Schools and graduated in 1965. Sue enrolled in Indiana State University’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1969 as a Registered Nurse. In her Senior Year, she married John Morris, also from Montezuma. After graduation from ISU she worked as an RN at Union Hospital. In 1972 they moved to Anderson, Indiana where she worked for 20 years at St. John’s Hospital in the coronary care unit, ICU, and later as evening supervisor.
She taught nursing classes at Ivy Tech in Anderson, Muncie, and at the Purdue Extension at Anderson University. Sue attended IUPUI in Indianapolis for IU Nursing School’s Nurse Practitioner program…After graduation, she worked at the Student Health Center and the Women’s Health Center at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana for 10 years. She continued to teach at Ivy Tech in their nursing program and was a preceptor for nurses taking Ball State’s Nurse Practitioner courses. As a nurse practitioner student, she worked at an Aids clinic in Indianapolis and the RDC in Plainfield. While she was a Nurse practitioner, she ran a clinic for St. John’s at the Anderson Horse Park for the workers that handled the horses for the trotters and pacer owners. She retired in 2007 when diagnosed with dementia and she and her husband moved back to Montezuma.
Sue is survived by her husband John and daughter Shelby of Montezuma and her sons, Matt of Anderson and Jeremy of Indianapolis. She also is survived by several grandchildren.
Visitation for Sue will be on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm at Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 1 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
