James (Jim) Franklin Heber, 89, of Hillsdale, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Jim was born in Vermillion County, Indiana on June 27, 1925 to Earl Heber and Evelyn Shew Heber. He married Norma Jean Knapp on September 29, 1947 in Clinton, Indiana.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Hawaii after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He worked for many years as a carpenter. in 1990, he retired from Lauhoff Grain in Danville, Il where he worked as a millwright for 30 years. He enjoyed home projects in his workshop and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed time spent with his beloved dog, Henry, and cat, Blackie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Steven Michael Heber, who died in 2008.
He is survived by his wife and three children: Tonna and husband Terry Corbin of Maple Grove, MN, James Thomas Heber and wife Lorrie of Terre Haute, IN, and Susan and Mike Gilman of Richmond, KY. He is also by survived by three grandchildren: Leasa Corbin-Pratt, Zachary Gilman, and Lauren Gilman along with two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ethan Pratt. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Francis Heber of Zionsville, IN.
Visitation will be held from 11 am-1 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 with service immediately following at Brown-Mack Funeral Home, 1072 North Jefferson Street, Montezuma, IN. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jim to the Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society at PO Box 155, Clinton, IN 47872.
