Ellen Jane Roark Harvey Fowler 94 of The Gardens in Clinton and formerly of
Montezuma and Rockville went home to be with the Lord at 10:42 am on Dec 16,
2011. She was born on June 7, 1917 in Cayuga, the only child of Roscoe and
Kathleen Bennet Roark but grew up surrounded by some very special cousins,
aunts and uncles. She graduated from Cayuga High School in 1935 after missing
a full year whcih she in spent in bed with Tuberculosis.
On Sept 21, 1935 she married Max Harvey of Cayuga. They lived in Chicago for
many years and in 1949 moved to Montezuma where they eventually formed The
Wabash Valley Printing Co., and published several weekly newspapers including
the Montezuma Pictorial Press for 18 years. Ellen wrote a delightful weekly
newspaper column "He Neighbors". Ellen and Max also sang at many area churches
and community events. Her husband died very suddenly on Sept 21, 1968 on their
33rd wedding anniversary. She later married Dale Fowler a family friend from
Montezuma who passed away in 1987. For several years she lived in Rockville
where she is a member of the Rockville United Methodist Church. She has been a
resident of the nursing home in Clinton since October 2008 where she loved to
read, write and work crossword puzzles and delighted the staff with her sense of
humor. Her greatest joy was her family.
She is survived by two daughters Joyce Watson (Jim) of Montezuma, Judith Leitce
(Bob) of Omaha, NE., one son John Harvey (Juanita) of Sulpher, IN., a step-daughter
Marica Davis (Dale) of La Grange, KY., 14 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and
8 great great granchildren.
Visitation will be at Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma from 11am-2pm on
Tuesday Dec 20th. A celebration of her life will be at 2pm with her family officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma with her grandsons as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parke County Food Pantry.
