Edward “Leon” Atkinson Sr. 77, of Montezuma, passed away on Saturday March 18, 2023, at his home.
He was born in Mecca, IN, on November 30, 1945, to Paul Atkinson and Maxine Reynolds Tarwackie.
Preceding Leon in death are his parents; two brothers Harold and Joseph Atkinson and two sisters Patty Tarwackie and Phyllis Reynolds.
Leon is survived by his wife Victoria (Jackson) Atkinson of Montezuma; daughters Lorrie Christian (Eddie) of Ladoga, Elizabeth Wilson (Cory) of South Bend, Lawanda Conner of Clinton; son Edward Atkinson Jr. (Karen) of South Bend; brother George Hamke (Debbie) of Montezuma and sisters Judy Hamke (Gary) of Clinton, Kay Morris (Joe) of Montezuma, Libby Atkinson of Peru, Barbara Atkinson of Montezuma, and Lisa Kneeland (Randy) of Rosedale. Also surviving are his six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with one on the way and one great- great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Leon was a graduate of Montezuma High School Class of 1963. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His time at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis (where he retired in 2003) as the Supervisor of Building Maintenance was a pretty big deal to him and he was known, loved and respected by many at the company.
Visitation will be held at Brown-Mack Funeral Home on Saturday March 25, 2023, from 12:00 until 4:00 P.M. Masonic services performed by Parke Lodge 8 will begin at 4:00 P.M. followed by Rev. Keith McIntyre. Eulogy will be given by Sherri Surdyka. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Parke Vermillion Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
