Montezuma – Edith “Edie” Merlene (Dierdorf) Bumgardner, 89, of Montezuma passed away Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Zionsville Meadows in Zionsville, Indiana. She was born July 31, 1936, in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Joseph Madison “Jack” Dierdorf, Sr. and Ethel Judd Dierdorf.
Edie was a proud graduate of Garfield High School and loved growing up in the historic Twelve Points neighborhood of Terre Haute which she remembered fondly often. She was a homemaker and then held various positions in banking, customer service for Hillman Jewelers, and later as an activities’ director at Parke County Nursing home.
She was a member of Montezuma Christian Church and for many years Edie was a devoted Sunday School teacher. She was a very faithful servant who loved sharing Jesus with everyone she met. For years she enjoyed attending and hosting her card club with several friends and neighbors in Montezuma. With her move and transition away from Montezuma, Edie continued to make new friends and was always glad to join in social activities, including games, cards, puzzles, attending music presentations and worship. She always had a smile and good humor to add to conversation with others.
Edie was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years who she married in 1959, John Clay Bumgardner who passed August 3, 1983; her sister, Sandra Purdy, and her brother, Joseph Dierdorf, Jr. both of Terre Haute. She is survived by her children John (Karen) Bumgardner of Conyers, Georgia, Lori (Scott) Brown of Rockville, Indiana, Tom (Elizabeth) Bumgardner of Zionsville, Indiana; her sister Georgia (Ron) Henderson of La Verne, California, her brother David Dierdorf of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica) Krout, Claire (Anthony) Ivaniuc, John (Kristen) Brown, Hopper Bumgardner, Lily Bumgardner, and Wrigley Bumgardner; and four great-grandchildren.
Edie loved her children and grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than being with her family. She loved getting together with extended family for annual holiday gatherings. She had a heart that was always giving and was especially fond of helping and befriending the elderly, offering encouragement, and stepping in for those in need.
Visitation will be at Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma, IN on Saturday November 29,2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Service will be 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Greg Goodrick officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Clinton, IN.
