Darrel D. Borders, 72, Of Montezuma, died Saturday, October 26, 2019 at his residence at 3 :28 pm.
He was born December 31, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana to Darrel C. Borders and Naomi Bugg Borders Norman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was married to Sandra L. Gill on December 24, 1966, at the Newport Methodist Church and she survives.
Other survivors are: his children Duane (Stefanie) Borders of Terre Haute and Robin Borders (Rick) Finney , all of Montezuma; grandchildren, Ricky (Sammie) Finney of Montezuma, Randy (Tori) Finney of Montezuma, Duane M. Target of US Army in Colorado, Christian Target of Terre Haute, and Emily Target; great-grandchildren, Addie Finney and Rylan Finney; siblings Doyne (Laura) Borders of Terre Haute, Cindy (Jim) Vanlandingham of Hillsdale, Kim Wehr of Hillsdale; step-siblings Jerry (Gay) Norman, Dave (Brenda) Norman, and Nancy (William) Wehr of Newport; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law Bob and Sharon Gill of Montezuma and Debra Bockhold of Montezuma; best buddy Phillip Stark of Clinton; aunts and uncles Sherman (Elaine) Borders of South Bend, Trudy (Herb) Carpenter of Jasonville, and Catherine (Jim) McCullough of Kingman; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many adopted kids.
Darrel previously worked at J.I.Case and Parke County REMC. He was a former volunteer Montezuma Fireman and volunteered as Santa Claus. He was a former baseball coach, a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Fish and Gun Club, and he was a veteran of the US Army , having served during the Viet Nam Era.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm at the Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 30 at 1 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Keith McIntyre officiating. Military rites will be performed. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma.
